Hi Caroline
What a surprise to find you have sailed away to the Murray! I just finished reading mysailing and then had to go looking for you. It did not take long to find you. Thank you so much for providing such a consistently outstanding read each and every month that you were skipper of Cruising Helmsman and thank for your encouragement and help as Geoff and I played at writing and photography for the mag. Our very best wishes for a successful and happy association with the Albury Wodonga News Weekly and happy sailing on the Murray.

Most of the GLBT community would never want to get married in a church anyways and the majority of them are not very religious at all, So the churches really dont have anything to worry about as i very much doubt that many of us would be asking them to marry us.

Maybe the reason why the majority of the GBLT community is not very religious is to do with the fact that the chuches make us feel unwelcome with views such as the ones above.

It's a human rights issue, which makes it a serious.

How would you feel if you lived in a country that didn't allow Christians get married, and treated them like second class citizens? It's worse than that though as religion is a choice, sexuality is not.

If two people truly love each other, what business is it of the government's to say they can't get married? Churches don't need to sanction it if they don't want to, that's their choice. But to suggest that a couple's love for each other is somehow "less" just because they are the same sex?

Is that REALLY the type of country we want to live in?

Oh, I'm sorry... I didn't realise that the open discrimination and hate mongering that has been permitted for decades against a significant demographic in Australian culture was not something of importance or priority...
Same sex marriage is really about having equal rights...
Believe me, if women were still being subjugated, then they would be rising up in this modern, and supposedly enlightened, world.
In the 21st Century, civil liberties have reached a point where we can finally ASK, quite legitimately, for an equal right to marry.
Frankly, I wouldn't want to get married in a Church, anyway. As a Gay Wiccan, I find the Christian church to be twice over full of hatred and persecution. So much blood has been spilt in the name of God, or Christ.
I have to ask myself if the leaders of the Churches are really so qualified to even comment on this issue - since the Bible is ancient and has been rewritten and misinterpreted so often throughout history.
The hatred of homosexuals in the Bible, in truth, relates to sexism. That a man will not put himself in the position of a woman, because basically, two thousand years ago, where Bible was written, women were regarded as being lower than dogs by society.
At any rate, religion aside, at the end of the day, love is love. Man or woman - or same sex... It will not destroy the world. It will not corrupt or endanger children. In fact, nothing will change much.
Except a lot of people will be made happy. What could possibly be wrong with that? Make love, not war...

I am a woman in a same sex relationship of 8 years, I would like the right to get married if I choose. It wouldn't be in a church as a lot of Gay couple are not religious. So why should us getting married worry a practicing Christian person, they should be tolerant and excepting of all people in all walks of life. Otherwise it's not a very Christian way of practice.

I have seen this woman race and she is indeed very good. One wonders what she might have achieved had she gotten into this sport as a youngster
